Winners of the $500 <em>Fill-the-Gaps scholarship<\/em> include Carlinda Perez of Polacca, who aspires to enter the NPC Associate Degree in Nursing program, Cheri Russell of Winslow, who is studying to become a medical assistant, Sidney Kizzar of Clay Springs who is enrolled in the college\u2019s new Surgical Technology program, Brooke Alexander of Sun Valley who is completing an associate degree in Automotive Technology, Show Low\u2019s Reichen Cooke, a welding student, Janae Crosson of St. Johns who is taking classes toward certification as a phlebotomist, Jamie Ortega, a Lakeside NPC first-year nursing student, and Lavea John of Keams Canyon whose immediate goal is a Certified Nursing Assistant licensure to prepare her for nursing prerequisites. Cooke and Kizzar also won scholarships awarded through the <em>Jon Graff PhD fund<\/em>, as did Snowflake CCP student Howard Ketner. Lavea John was also selected to receive the <em>Jeanne Swarthout Presidential Excellence<\/em> scholarship, the <em>Pres Winslow Memorial scholarship<\/em> and the <em>Charles Listizky Memorial scholarship<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The foundation has opened a second round of scholarship opportunities, worth an additional $15,500 to assist continuing NPC students enrolling at NPC in Fall 2020. Individual awards range from $500 to over $1,000. Details and full application instructions, including the required cover letter form and tips on writing a strong essay can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npc.edu\/scholarships\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.npc.edu\/scholarships&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1588441441797000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHEu-3MhEpIrL0KC8oFquUx7EIqWg\">www.npc.edu\/scholarships<\/a>, using \u201cNPC Friends and Family\u201d in the keyword search line. Scholarships available include the <em>Claude Millet Endfield Early Childhood Education scholarship<\/em>, the <em>US Military Veterans scholarship<\/em>, which is designated for veterans their spouses and dependents, and the <em>NPC Friends and Family Leg Up scholarship<\/em>, which is for students who do not qualify for federal financial aid. Two nursing scholarships are also being offered. <em>The Summit Healthcare Foundation<\/em> has once again generously contributed five $1,000 awards, and the newly-established <em>Beehive Homes scholarship<\/em>, sponsored by Beehive Homes of Snowflake and Mark and Becky Duncan will provide an additional $1,000 to four awardees enrolled in NPC\u2019s nursing program.<\/p>\n<p>Applications will be accepted through Monday, May 18. Students are strongly encouraged to review all criteria and application requirements carefully and get their applications in early! All students interested in applying for scholarships must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fafsa.ed.gov\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.fafsa.ed.gov&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1588441441797000&amp;usg=AFQjCNENaYxddbgkYYIvbxMkouDkbROnlw\">www.fafsa.ed.gov<\/a> prior to submitting their scholarship applications. For more information about the FAFSA, students may contact the NPC Financial Aid office at 928-524-7418.<\/p>\n<p>Since Fall 2014, NPC Friends and Family has awarded over 300 scholarships to NPC students, making a tremendous difference in their pursuit of a post-secondary education. Over 97% of awardees have either completed an NPC degree or certificate program, or are still enrolled at the college.
