Carlos Santana had some explaining to do on Tuesday (Feb. 14) after seemingly dissing Beyoncé in an interview with the Australian Associated Press. In the chat he defended Adele‘s win over Bey at Sunday night’s (Feb. 12) Grammy Awards by intimating that the Lemonade vocalist was “not a singer-singer” but more of a music model.

In the interview to promote his band’s tour of New Zealand and Australia that ran in the New Zealand Herald, the rock icon was quoted saying, “I think that Adele won because she can sing sing… With all respect to our sister Beyoncé, Beyoncé is very beautiful to look at and it’s more like modeling kind of music — music to model a dress — she’s not a singer, singer, with all respect to her.”  That, as you can imagine, did not go over well with the Beyhive, who swarmed the “Oye Como Va” star with great vengeance and furious anger on Twitter. It didn’t help that he kind of doubled-down on the diss, adding, “Adele can sing, sing. She doesn’t bring all the dancers and props, she can just stand there and she just stood there and sang the song and that’s it, and this is why she wins.”
